Location: Lansing, MI

Owner: State of Michigan

Scope of Work: Remove and repair existing marble walls and floors throughout vestibule and elevator lobby.  Furnish and install new marble for interior walls in the residential lobby to match existing.

Materials:

  • Materials: Calacatta Gold marble, Angola Black granite, 12,500 Square feet

Description:

Many blocks were sorted to produce a sufficient quantity of Calacatta slabs with matching color and veining to complete the project.

Both marble and granite were incorporated in the diamond pattern of the floor medallion at the main entry. The complex design required that all pieces be cut on a radius following the curve of the center medallion. Each was individually marked to locate its place in the pattern. To assure a perfect fit when installed, the pieces were dry laid together at the Italian fabrication facility before being crated for shipment to the job site.

The original Angola Black column bases were later required to be clad with Calacatta to differentiate them from the black granite floor band and avoid a trip hazard.

The main security desk and several reception desktops were set with Calacatta.

Project Duration: 2002 -2003 11 Months
